NEC Breaks New Ground With Its Latest Fingerprint Scanner

2:07 am by Admin. Filed under: Geek Gagdets

NEC is an industry leader when it comes to biometric identification technology. True to their usually high standards, NEC have unveiled their latest product, the HS100-10. What it does better than most USB fingerprint scanners is no physical contact is necessary for a scan thanks to a very advanced algorithm.

NEC finger scan

Its official product name is the HS100-10 Contactless Hybrid Finger Scanner and as mentioned, there’s a USB interface for optimum ease-of-use. While there have been more than a few usb fingerprint scanners featured here at geeky Gadgets in the past, the NEC really stands apart thanks to its advanced-ness, meaning it’s so advanced, the closest competition is still struggling to meet its impossibly high standards.

More than just fancy tech, NEC has the track record to back its claim as the best in the biz. Numerous evaluations undertaken by the National Institute of Standards and Technology have proven NEC really is top dog in its field. Proof enough is the HS100-10, which is due this May. As of this writing, there’s no word on the price yet.

Let’s Call It What It Is: The Awesome Cake [Geeky Cake]

2:41 am by Admin. Filed under: Geek Movies

You know I’m not prone to vociferous adoration characterized by the OMG LULZ LOVE IT WANT! noise that plagues our internet tubules, so you know that when I call this cake, “Awesome,” it’s because that’s what cake artisan Barbara Garrard damn well named it.

Awesome Cake

Because “awesome” is apparently what you find at the intersection of zombies, unicorns, robots, rainbows, and piranha plants from Super Mario Bros.

Via Super Punch, who knows that “bawl-some” is what you find at the intersection of rainbows and dead unicorns.

Podcast for 09.21.09 | The Mexican Internet

2:56 pm by Admin. Filed under: Geek Games

This week is all over the board as Jinny, Ross and Qais join me in discussion about the Tesla Roadster (and how I got to drive one!), Scribblenauts (and how Ross hates fun!), the official Buddhist stance on violent video games (and how I like to alienate my friends!), the prospect of Twitter-enabled games and how to make an incredibly good Fallout 3 laser rifle. And then, sometime during the show, Qais finally puts the Kanye meme to bed. We hope you enjoy.

Bioware Says Dragon Age 2 Shouldn’t Make You Scared Of Big Bad RPGs

3:13 am by Admin. Filed under: Geek Gagdets

Well they would, wouldn’t they? Regardless of their vested interest, however, Bioware, here represented by Dragon Age 2 Lead Designer Mike Laidlaw has a point. People are being familiarized with RPG mechanics in droves, whether they realize it or not. It’s probably just the whole pointy-eared, vertically challenged aspect of RPGs that they need to get to grips with.

Dragon Age 2 Special Weapons

“For me, I guess, fundamentally, there are more people who are ready to play RPGs than realise it,” Mike Laidlaw told Gamasutra. “These are people who will play FarmVille. These are people who have shot enough people in the head that they’ve leveled up in Medal of Honor. They’ve gained XP and have received awards as a result. That’s an RPG mechanic.” I can’t help but share Mike’s hopes that the RPG will be the mainstay gaming genre of the future, if only just for the vain hope that people will demand ever more complex ones. There’s probably not going to be a crowd demanding  Baldur’s Gate 3 beating down Bioware’s door any time soon, but a boy can dream.

Vacation Idea #3345

4:01 pm by Admin. Filed under: Geek Books

This is one of my vacation ideas #3345. Seriosuly that is a joke. We decide what we want to do  for vacation this time of the year because we like to book early.

By booking early, we usually get some steep discounts and nice rates . We are early planners and like several months to figure out what to bring, take and to make sure the hubby gets his time off work.

We have looked into several ideas. One idea I like the most is taking  one of the many bermuda cruises I keep seeing through the AAA website.

What is your favorite cruise line? What has been your favorite trip?

Cooler Than You Are: Kid’s Dark Helmet Costume [Cosplay]

4:16 am by Admin. Filed under: Geek Movies

Say what you will about America’s youth, but I haven’t given up hope.

Yet.

Kids Dark Helmet Costume

I love that this kid dressed as Dark Helmet from Spaceballs at Star Wars Celebration IV is doing “tongue-in-cheek tribute” before he even knows what “tongue-in-cheek” means.

Via Reddit, who bets he doesn’t know what “pocket pool” means, either. Because that’s just how Reddit’s mind works.

Home Depot Has Some Great Sales

4:52 am by Admin. Filed under: Geek Books

We live in a such a small town. In the last two weeks, I look in the local newspaper and I see the announcement of our Home Depot is closing!  The jobs in our town are sparse as it is without this place closing down. The store is also located on a major piece of real estate, so when it goes, it is not gonna be pretty for any newcomers in this town.

I hope something will be moving into that spot soon. The only thing good that is coming out of this move are the deals. I have talked to some employees and they say the good deals right now are in paint and blinds. Also the schlage hardware is on sale, as well as lot of other name brands throughout the store.

Also if you check some of the daily deal sites out there, they have some great coupons to pair with these deals.
My hearts and prayers go out to the employees who are affected by this closing.
