Haptic Belts Allow Soldiers to Get Directions Without Looking at GPS Screens

6:16 pm by Admin. Filed under: Geek Games

All the movies I have seen where a group of soldiers need to travel quietly they always use hand signals to let everyone know what is going on. The thing that is bad about that is in the dark, there is no way for the other people to see hand signals. A cool new belt that sounds a lot like the tech in PS3 Dual Shock controllers will let the solider get all the directions he needs without having to look at a map or a screen.

The haptic belts use an array of vibrating motors called tactors that are spaced at 45-degree intervals. One tactor points in each direction the solider might need to go. As they move along a path noted by waypoints, the tactors will vibrate and point them in the correct direction. To make the device even cooler, the belt can also be connected to a glove worn by the leader so that they vibrate in response to hand signals.

For instance, all the tactors can vibrate when the commander gives the halt hand signal and when the move out signal is given the tactors can vibrate in a back to front motion. The haptic belts can even be programmed by a remote command center to steer squads on a new path based on intel they might not have on the ground.

The haptic belt project is being conducted by Elmar Schmeisser and a team at the Army Research Office in North Carolina.

Personal Life VS Work Life

7:01 am by Admin. Filed under: Geek Books

Pre-order your copy of The Closer: The Complete Sixth Season on DVD here today: http://bit.ly/kgqBLo !

In Season 6 of The Closer, Brenda’s (Kyra Sedgwick) work interferes with her personal life. This happens to everyone! People and therapists alike always say leave your work at work. I know from experience it is super hard.

I worked at one place for several years. It was super stressful talking to customers all day long. Some of these customers I wondered how they are even still alive and can get around because their intelligence was limited. Talking to them on the phone was certainly a challenge and sometimes downright aggravating! If it was not for the 3o  minute drive home to calm me down, I would have been ill every night.

I also worked at another place for a short time. My co workers were mean and felt threatened to have another person in their department. I literally cried on the way home every day and my hair started to fall out because of stress. I hated getting up in the morning and going in the door.

I am very grateful for both opportunities  because they have both lead me towards the path of my dream job and that is teaching. I took the summer off because I had a baby in April. I start back part time in the fall, and Im praying a full time position will come my way soon!

So I feel just like Brenda in that show!

PS3 Jailbreak Enables Remote Play with PSP on Many PS3 Games: Why Won’t Sony Make This Official?

7:17 pm by Admin. Filed under: Geek Games

Before anything else: if you’re quite familiar with the PS3 jailbreak scene, then yes, this is very old news for you. Still, I think this is quite an interesting piece of news for the rest of us who are not as acquainted with the intricacies of the exploit. You see, it turns out that one of the features that you can gain from jailbreaking the PS3 is Remote Play compatibility for many PS3 games, regardless if they’re officially supported or not.

ps3 jailbreak psp remote play

For those unfamiliar with the feature, Remote Play lets users interact with the PS3 and access some of its content on the PSP. I’m no tech expert but I think it works a lot like OnLive’s system – the PS3 (wirelessly) streams video output to the PSP, and the PSP uploads button input on the same connection.

Above is a screenshot from the video recording below, which shows YouTuber hackyourbabies playing Blur – a game that does not have official support for Remote Play – on a PSP. You can easily find several other videos online showing the hack in action if this one example doesn’t give sufficient proof for you.

I’ll leave it to you and Google to figure out how you can enjoy this ability. If you can’t search for the instructions and the necessary files on your own then you probably shouldn’t mess with your PS3 and your games anyway.

The real question here is this – why isn’t this an official feature for more PS3 games? Obviously it’s not going to be feasible on games that make use of the right analog stick and the L2 and R2 buttons. But I honestly don’t see why Remote Play, which Sony itself hyped at the beginning, isn’t being pushed more aggressively by the company and by PS3 game developers, especially given the PSP’s less-than-stellar sales.

Online Educations are Not Taboo Anymore!

7:52 pm by Admin. Filed under: Geek Books

Online Universities are just as good as going to an actual university!  There are so many programs out there to choose from.  I received my bachelors degree from a local college here in town. After I finished it, I wanted to get my Masters degree. Pretty much all the colleges to get that degree are far away and I do not always have a sitter on hand.

I started looking for online degree programs for Information technology and finally found a school I think I’m happy with.

There are so many schools and different programs to choose from. Lots of people are scared to go back to school for several reasons and the main reason is money.  Well there are several sources out there that can help you find funds to go to school.

The first place you need to check is Free Application For Federal Student Aid at  http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/ .

All you do is get out your tax returns form the previous year and fill in the blank. Some people are even scared they will not complete that! Well it is super easy. The website tells you exactly what line on your tax returns you need to get the answer from. There is no calculations or anything.

If you are eligible to get anything you they will let you know. You do not have to accept any reward at all! You will never know unless you try though!

Online educations are not taboo anymore! Lots of people are getting their educations online by accredited schools because of family and time constraints. All ages of people take these classes too.

So start searching !

Kyra Sedgwick’s character Brenda display power without compromising her femininity in this show. She really is a strong kick ass character. She always stay cool, calm, and collected. She is on top of her game. I only wish I could deal with stress the way she does!

I enjoy movies and sitcoms who have strong women characters. I think its important Tv shys away from the typical housewife and shows our women who they can be!

I am certainly not a feminist, So do not take me the wrong way. Anyway, check out the clip!

Team Poison Hackers Pwn Ex Tony Blair Assistant

8:27 pm by Admin. Filed under: Geek Gagdets

In a rare effort to somehow knock the reputation of former Prime Minister Tony Blair, a hacker group has pastebinned an address book and CV. The goal, apparently, is to dear old Tony to justice for the awful mess that was the Iraq War. The people behind this nefarious act of ‘cyber citizen justice’ are alleged LulzSec rivals who want to shame the ex-PM. What else could you possible achieve by circulating an address book and some lady’s CV?

Table Tennis for One?

9:13 am by Admin. Filed under: Geek Games

When you think about it, ping pong is kind of a silly game to begin with. You know, a couple of grown adults smacking a tiny hollow ball across a tabletop with all their might does seem a bit superfluous. But take away your opponent, and it’s not a game at all, right? Well, not if you head over to Japan and buy this new version of the game from Happinet [JP].

table_tennis_for_one_happinet

The “Hyper Ping Pong” table tennis game does away with all those pesky balls, tables, and opponents, replacing them with a single paddle for one player. As the player swings the ping pong paddle around, it outputs realistic sounds to simulate a rally with a non-existent Player Two. You need to listen for the sound and speed of the ball to time your returns properly. A motion sensor in the paddle then detects whether or not you “hit” the non-existent ball. Here, check out the silliness in action:

Click to View Embedded Video Clip

Well, that sure looks like fun for at least 2 minutes. And what was the deal with that guy’s red shoes? I suppose if you don’t already own a Wii, Kinect or PlayStation Move, it’s a way for you to play some solo games, but frankly it just looks ridiculous. If you really must have one, you’ll need to wait until October, at which point it will go on sale for ¥1980 (~ USD). Or you could just buy a couple of real paddles, an actual ball, and play with another human being.
