Things To Consider When You’re Choosing New Tires And Rims

8:07 pm by Admin. Filed under: Uncategorized

Tires and wheels are regarded as the most important components of any vehicle. Other than linking your car to the road and providing support to its general weight, these parts are the ones where you bet your life on once you hit the road. Due to the critical nature of tires and wheels, it is important that they are equally balanced with each other. Tires and wheels that do not fit well with each other, no matter how well connected they are to their , could actually lead to vehicular accidents, damage to properties or worse the loss of life. As such, it is essential that you find Diamo wheels that are suitable for each other so as to give your vehicle the right stance and style and to boost its performance on the road.

If you’re thinking of driving your vehicle with rims that are similar to your stock components, choosing the right units can be accomplished in no time. Yet, if you’re thinking of integrating your car with wheels and tires that have different front and rear fitments, then there are some considerations that you have to look at. Always put in mind that the fitment of wheel and tire packages relies heavily on the measurements of such components. As a car owner you have to take note of these elements to make sure that you would get uniform tire and wheel units appropriate for your vehicle.

Taking the measurements of wheels and tires can be a daunting task to work on, but it is necessary that you know how to do it so that you won’t have a hard time selecting appropriate rim and tire packages for your ride. For your wheel components, you have to measure its width, diameter, bolt pattern, backspace and offset. Diameter denotes the straight line that passes through the wheel’s center and meets on the surface on both ends, while width refers to the wheel’s wideness. Bolt pattern can be identified as the number of bolts and the measurement of the circle of bolt, which can be calculated by simply measuring from the edge of one bolt hole, then skipping another hole, and then jumping on the center of the adjacent hole. The third element, which is the backspace, is the wheel face’s distance from its backside edge. You can measure this by running a straight edge from the rim’s bead and then another straight edge on the wheel’s face and then add up the two measurements to get the distance. Lastly, offset is the distance of the centerline of the wheels from its mounting surface.

As opposed to your wheels, you could easily get the measurements of your tires. You can do this by locating the tire’s size which is commonly found on its sidewall. You’ll find that your tire size has several numbers, which can be summarized as: three numbers, a slash, two more numbers, the letter R, and then two more numbers. The section width millimeter, which is represented by the first numbers, is measured from the tires’ sidewall to sidewall when it is not yet integrated. The second numbers, which stand for the aspect ratio, refers to the height of the sidewall expressed as the tread width’s percentage. The last numbers which represent the wheel’s diameter can be computed by doubling the size of the side wall and then adding it to the rim size, or more precisely it is the diameter of the wheel that would fit perfectly on your tires. Once you get the hang of measuring these parts, you’ll surely make the right purchasing decision for your wheel and tire package.

Of course, with the complexities associated to wheel and tire measurements, it is pretty understandable if you don’t like to do it yourself. But, if you really have to get a new set of wheels and tires for your vehicle and if your budget will permit, why not settle for custom rims instead? Customizing your rims is a good way to get compatible wheel assemblies that are both stylish and high in quality. Reliable auto parts shops that specialize in car customizations carefully inspect the wheels’ and tires’ geometry measurements, uniformity and dynamic balance in order to ensure that they are durable and they will suit your vehicle.

Generally, the wheel fitments that you wish to install on your car warrants your overall safety on the road. Whether you’re thinking of getting custom rims or aftermarket wheels, in one way or another, you have to know how to measure these parts in order for you to ensure that you will be getting your money’s worth. Do not be persuaded by discounts and inexpensive packages because you don’t actually know what they have in store for you. As much as possible do not economize on these auto components because at the end of the day they are the ones that would assure you your safety.

VC Andrews and a Book Contest!

11:09 pm by Admin. Filed under: Geek Books

I am such a sucker for a VC andrews book. My first book was Flowers in the Attic. My mother said it was good, and I read it when I was a teen. Quickly after that, I went through her entire series. After her death, they penned several authors to write in her same style. I try so hard, but I am just compelled to read these books. I have been waiting and waiting for this one to come out! I’m so excited to be getting a review copy courtesy of the publisher.

Would you like one too? If so , just comment at the botttom, who your favorite author is and why!

Second in an all-new series!

Cloudburst, from the creator of Flowers in the Attic by V.C. Andrews®

Fate swept Sasha Porter into the lap of luxury, and into a torrent of bitter lies and shocking betrayals—all revealed in the riveting new novel CLOUDBURST (Pocket Star Books; October 25, 2011; .99) from bestselling author V.C. Andrews®.

Since being taken in by wealthy Mrs. Jordan March and living in her exquisite home like a daughter, Sasha Porter’s traumatic past—destitute on the streets, and the shattering accident that killed her mother—seems like a fading nightmare.  Beautiful and sophisticated, as bold and daring as her “sister,” Kiera March, Sasha still keeps her mother’s wise words close to her heart: never fully trust anyone.  Inside her privileged new world, it’s advice that will prove more precious than gold.

Against the wishes of Jordan’s husband, Donald, Sasha attracts the attention of Ryder Garfield, a shy, handsome athlete, and maneuvers her way into his heart.  But Ryder’s hidden torment soon explodes in a horrific tragedy that pulls Sasha into a flood of guilt and despair.  And when someone she thought she could trust targets her vulnerability, Sasha recalls her mother’s warnings—and a violent storm of dark deceptions and shocking family secrets is unleashed.  Will she sink or swim?

programming fibonacci knit scarf

12:47 am by Admin. Filed under: Geek Clothes

It took me three years to perfect the Fibonacci Scarf pattern, and it takes hundreds of hours to hand knit one scarf. So I brought my Fibonacci Scarf pattern to the Textile Design Lab (TDL) in New Zealand to see if they would be able to manufacture them. They were able to program my design into the computer, hit “print”, and have their whole garment knitting machine spit out Fibonacci knit scarves, just like printing on a home inkjet printer. In this photo you see a sweater coming out, but that’s a project I will tell you about later.

At TDL very talented technician Gordon programs whole garment knitting machines and works with a lot of super soft merino wools. Whole garment knitting machines are able to knit an entire garment. You don’t need to sew up seams or attach sleeves, a finished garment comes out of the machine.

When you create the program for a knit garment, you can copy and paste sections of the code from other garments. So you can add a sleeve from something, and a collar from something else. There wasn’t anything like the Fibonacci Scarf, so Gordon had to create the program from scratch. It’s a complicated knit structure, and he was able to program in details like different amounts of tension for a lot of individual stitches. Above is a screen shot of the knit program getting debugged. You can actually go through, look at the individual stitches, and make corrections to the code.

Above is a video of the machine knitting. You can see the carriage moving back and forth as it knits the yarn across a bed of needles.

TDL specializes in making low quantity experimental designs (They had just finished knitting tunics for The Hobbit movie when I arrived.). They work a lot with very soft merino wools and merino possum blends. After all merino wool is one of New Zealand’s top luxury exports. The Fibonacci Scarves are all knit from the local NZ stuff that TDL helped me to source. The scarves are knit on the very machine pictured above and then brought to the US. You can buy one in our shop.
